The Bone That Sharpen Your Teeth!

my cousin mentioned something today that i couldnt take of my mind, she said" going into labor and all the pain while giving birth is no problem to me, parenting and raising my children is".
.
.
Parenting? i wish if it was as easy as its shown in movies or "parenting" books, but its not.
.
.
being the person i am, the "old school" type, i dont think i can raise my children up to my standards, my friends and even some of my family members think i'm a "stiff" and "uptight" to my own generation, if i am considered to be all that according to my own generation, how the hell am i going to make it to the next one? changing some values? how can one change values? change principles? change whats wrong to normal just for the sake of "modernity" is not me.
.
.
"modern parenting" i dont think i can do that. actually coming to think about it, from now on its one of my greatest fears.

*There's only one way to have a happy marriage and as soon as I learn what it is ,I'll get married.

but stifness will only bring your children to disobey you and or pretend to do what you say then do things behind your back, be your children's best friend.

exactly my point.. thats why i think its very challenging... the problem is i dont know how to handle things like when your son starts drinking alcohol, or your daughter starts dating... how to make them pick the right friends when people's values are changing? i'm not a mother yet nor a wife, but i dont think i can take the next step if im not prepared for whats coming along with it.

parenting is the hardest thing in the world, there is no clear line as to what can be considered old school and new school, every child and every situation require a new method..it is extremely hard, very confusing and brings guilt amoung one all the time :)
excellent post

Being stiff and upright= great parenting.. I mean see modern parenting, there are 7 years old boys gizzzing and 9 year old girls showing their stuff!! I mean are you sure you want that?
Old school is the right way to go..There nothing better!

Do it old school style :P
We grew up just fine on that if you dont,
look at kids nowdays no values whatsoever no pride no nothing...
Sometimes you need to do it old school and still be your children friend just saying sometimes you also need to be the parent as well.
Most of us have gotten the belt treatment and we deserved it yet we turn out fine.
If you like what you see in kids now be the "Modern Parent" just remember you reap what you sow!!!

Be ur child's bestfriend but at the same time be strict. Let them know whos boss... In this way, they will respect u.. They will understand someday that what u are doing is for their own good.
I believe that there isnt a book out there that can help or guide us on how to raise kids or do anything in life. First of all, the authors of these types of bookes are usually westurners which mean they come from different backgrounds, religion, traditions, and so on.
My advice, when the time comes worry about it.. u seem like a bright girl and i think u'll do fine. ooo ba3adian la sam7a Allah if ur fears come true (inshallah they wont), but by that time u would be wiser and u'll know what to do.
Live each day by day :)

You don't have to change at all !
and to say to them that we love them !

I tell you darling, we are strange creatures
but to be fare, nothing is more satisfaying than holding a little baby in your arms, especially when it's yours...very warm feeling to say the least, and "yours" does not necessary mean biologically, it could also be socially, as in raising a child and feeling true motherly feelings to ward him/her
aren't women just beautiful with all their contradictions?

شخصيا اعتقد ان التربية تكون تلقائية , يعني يوم بعد يوم تقرر شنو الخطوة التالية
و خنشوف سلموه شلون تطلع, ابوها و امها عكس عكوس

let's start our own community, where our children would be friends, or else my "strictly" raised children wont be able to socialize.
moryarti,
knowing you being the man you are, i don't think you should be worried at all.
phoenix

to be honest from what ive seen its best to stick with the traditional way but with little changes and modifications just to be in line with modernity..... but other than that i still believe in the traditional way in raising a child .... i like the idea 'en kobar weldek 7'awah'.... as KM said its a spontaneous matter unplanned just taking it day by day :)
