najd (so green)

Comming from a typical NAJDI family we had our own "taboos" "Restrictions" and "traditions". never thought of my background with its contradictions and all that untill i got friends from other backgrounds who thought that my background is weird and a "6ash ma 6ash" kinda thing ! , anyways my Grandfather (alla ye7afthah) is way too traditionalist , in other words hes a typical najdi. he likes us (girls) to wear the (3abat) on our heads just like women back then , it doesnt matter if its with hejab or not as long as we're wearing it. actually we wear it infront of him and take it off as soon as he leaves( i really hate lying to him ! but i also didnt want to ruffle his feathers ) . any how people you gotta see the look on new (chanayen) face when ever we tell them you have to wear the 3abat on ur head infront of grandpa , its PRICELESS ! LOL .he also hates short hair on girls and sometimes pulls the girl's short hair and says "hatha meta b'ye6ool??". he doesnt like big earings, trousers , t-shirts (when ever he sees some of the girls wearing a T.shirt and her wrists are kind of shown, he says " ya bnayah laish metfas.khah?") . if he see someone eating or drinking with his / her left hand he says " belyemeen yamal elkaser". he also doesnt believe in girls going to university , although almost all of us been to the university... he thinks that girls who study to get a job are in need for money , and as he says " banatna mahum b3azat a7ad" you guys might think this is kind of retard , but i think its cute ! i mean how rare, those men who care of their womens needs and wouldnt let them need anything dont really exist anymore !. as for the boys , he prefers to see them in dishdasha and praying each "farth" in the mosque right next to him!. now when it comes to marriage , if a girl is engaged no one knows about that untill the men come and ask for her hand officially and then they'd announce it . sometimes even her sisters wouldnt know only one day before the men come or so !!. Nejadah (or neyadah) pronounce the (j) but its different than the beduin accent . we still use some words like
"ya7ebeelah" , "em7e6ah" "ezheleeha" "mair" ...etc from time to time

their number one interest is their palm trees ;-p . in europe if your trying to be nice and start a conversation with someone you would talk about the weather ! .well not in our case !. people here would talk about dates seasons ( mawsem ler6ab welkhalal , wetamer wel chebas...etc). one annoying thing about "them" (masra3 ma tebarait menhum) Nejadah are way too proud !, you see them talking about najd as if its the land of heavens , well am particulary from a small town called "zelfey" this place has nothing but red sands (ramel enifood) so u see my cousins and uncles go like " we're originally from ziladilfia " or when they feel like bragging they'd say "ana zelfawi" ...etc , now on the other hand my grandmother (alla yer7amha) was a wise woman ,wasnt najdiyah , her family came to kuwait in the early days so when ever my uncles and granpa start bragging about them being from Zelfey, shed say

and if they start bragging about najd , she would simply shut their mouths with one simple sentence :

نجد لوفيها خير , كان ماهجّوا عنها أهلكم

c'est tot ;-p

not sure if u mean "proud in a bad way" .. becoz its definitely not!

bil3aks.. personally i admire ppl who take pride in who they are and where they come from

yadich (y6awel b3omra) is right on spot in everything .. im exactly the same EXCEPT for the univ education, i think a grl is entitled to it etha tabi.. everything else he suggests seems like something id say heh so no it isnt "retarded" we still live :P

Still remember once how I was humiliated by one of my older relatives who is like ur grandpa Allah y7'leeh because I didn't go to the Mosque, and didn't wear the thob with the 3'tra and 3gal, instead i had a cap. But I still do respect them, and admire their pride of their cultures and traditions Allah y7'leeh lkom oo y6awel fee 3omrah :)

:S

allah ye6awel eb 3omra :) i liked your grandfather :) and tottally agree with him in the short hair issue .

i excuse our ranfathers ( yet i tottally disagree with them ) that they dont like their daughters to have job .. cause in their time only women in need would have a job .. and it would be like they are "emgasreen 3aleehom"

allah yer7amha your grandmother she is totally right !! every one in kuwait left his origial place becaose of political , financial reasons or looking for better place to live :) amean if our granfathers were comfortable with the place they were living they why they left it :)

temitwir :
being proud of ur family and origins is good , but being way too proud is bad !

those people were raised on ethics ... 3salla yekhalehum lena !

Queen daallo
well said , couldnt said it any better.

se3loah

chatterbox

hahaha mashallah yr grandpa is cool :) Allah ye7fatha :)

i do agree with most of what he says and dont get offended by any of what he said

i wonder what our generation will tell our grandchildren
????
probably not to do things we see as bizare lol

is it just me, or do u guys NOT agree with him?

i thought mother courage was just telling us about her grandfather, but im sensing u guys dont agree much with what he has to say? whats up with that

u too mother courage u dont seem so thrilled either :/

q8ibloger:

hey ! its nice to see u again , u've been missed...am not offended of anything he said . actually i luv it . u dont hear or see those things everyday ;-p

and seriously i've been thinking of the same question , wut would we say about our grandchildren? , i dont have a positive view of that honestly i would be one annoying granma ;-p
